The Beaches

Leadbetter Beach in Santa Barbara, California

Despite its close proximity to Santa Barbara City College, Leadbetter Beach is actually one of the llead crowded beaches around. Its unique attributes are its breathtaking views of Shoreline Cliffs and the Boat Harbor, but more importantly it is one of the few beach locations that is handicap accessible. Its grassy area is perfect for your ceremony and reception, giving you all of the beauty and benefits of a beach wedding while keeping the sand out of your shoes! Your beachfront ceremony site is separated from your reception location by towering palms, eliminating the need for driving from one event to the other.

Restroom facilities are close by at the Shoreline Beach Cafe, which makes for a marvelous reception venue if you wish to have some shade over your heads while not giving up the open air feeling of your “day at the beach”. Parking is readily available which can be pre-reserved through our coordinator or paid per vehicle upon exit.

Directions: From the 101 freeway exit Garden Street or Castillo Street. Turn south towards the ocean. Turn right on Cabrillo Blvd. After you have passed the harbor, Leadbetter will be on your left.

Butterfly Beach in Montecito, California

Butterfly Beach, located across the street from The Four Seasons Biltmore in Montecito is a locals favorite. There are no beach amenities here (no kayak rentals, volleyball courts, restroom facilities, or restaurants) so it tends to be less attractive to the activity minded visitor. It does however draw a strong local crowd, so weekend weddings are best in either the mid morning or very late afternoon to allow for a more intimate environment.

Montecito’s Butterfly Beach is one of the few west facing beaches along the Santa Barbara coastline which makes for spectacular sunset views over the water. It’s also the place to be for dolphin watching, which often can be seen playing in the surf in the early to late afternoon.

Because it is not a very wide beach, please check with our coordinator to determine the tides for your wedding day before deciding on a specific time of day for your ceremony. Receptions are discouraged here, mostly because of the coming and going of the tides, but for a romantic wedding ceremony Butterfly Beach is ideal and one of my top picks.

Directions: Take the 101 to Olive Mill Road in Montecito (a few minutes south of Santa Barbara). At the stop sign, turn towards the ocean (away from the mountains) and follow it a quarter of a mile along the coast. Butterfly Beach is on your left. Parking is limited and will be packed with cars on most weekends. Park on either side of the street along the beach or drive up Butterfly Rd and park in the nearby neighborhoods.

Most wedding ceremonies that include chairs will be at the intersection of Channel Drive and Butterfly Lane, at the West end of the Beach. Standing ceremonies are held on the sand directly in front of the Biltmore Hotel. Look for the entryway to the beach that features two low pillars topped with potted flowers and flagstone steps leading to the beach and you are there!

East Beach in Santa Barbara, California

East beach is a sun worshipers paradise. Directly across from Santa Barbara’s largest and most prestigious hotels, It’s long and spacious shores provide the perfect setting for your tropical beach wedding and reception. It’s island vistas are breathtaking, and due to it’s wide and expansive sandy areas one feels as though the rest of the world has simply melted away.

East Beach is ideal for both ceremonies and receptions as it is not affected by the tides, and parking is easy with city lots within close proximity. Accommodations are plentiful along Cabrillo Blvd., which is an added convenience for both you and your guests when considering that it is mere steps from your room to your ceremony site!

Directions: East Beach is accessible from just about any exit along downtown Santa Barbara – Carrillo Blvd, Milpas, Garden, Castillo. Turn away from the mountains and when you reach Carrillo Blvd follow instructions given to you by our coordinator to determine your specific ceremony location.

Wedding Ceremonies can be performed in English, Spanish, or French
